The Pewaukee Student Services Department oversees a number of programs including English Learners (formerly English Language Learners), Response to Intervention (RtI), School Counseling, Special Education, and Talented and Gifted (TAG). English Learners

Pewaukee School District focuses on training teachers and staff to differentiate and support every student, including those who are learning English as a second, third, or even fourth language! For students who qualify for EL support, there is an EL Specialist, Sherri Ronge, who will collaborate, support & provide regular classroom teachers with instructional resources.  Unlike some school districts, all Pewaukee EL students are mainstreamed. Supports include, but are not limited to, creation and implementation of personalized support plans, progress monitoring (WIDA Model), advocacy, and family communication.

Response to Intervention

The Pewaukee School District believes in providing the highest quality of education for our students. This notification is to provide you with information about a new three-tiered instructional approach we are using to meet this goal referred to as Response to Intervention (RTI) which is now part of federal educational law.

For RTI, all students will participate in the core curriculum with three levels (tiers) of interventions for students who demonstrate at-risk skills in general academics or behavior. Each tier provides additional support beyond the core curriculum. All students will be tested three times a year to measure their progress to determine if they are performing at grade-level. Behavioral expectations will also be monitored on a regular basis throughout the year.

Tier One – Teachers will use different strategies within the core curriculum to address all student educational needs.
Tier Two – Based on progress data, students who are unsuccessful in Tier One will be provided supplemental research-based interventions matched to their needs. The RTI team, an instructional support team, will track the student’s progress, and parents will receive ongoing progress data.
Tier Three – Students who continue to struggle in Tier Two will receive more intensive interventions at this level. Parents will receive ongoing progress data. After Tier Three implementation, students who continue to display limited progress may then be considered for further evaluation and services.

School Counseling

The mission of the Pewaukee Public School District's School Counseling Program is to maximize all students' abilities to develop strategies that support their academic achievement, self-awareness, interpersonal skills and career awareness.

Special Education

The Pewaukee Public School District offers a continuum of services for children who qualify for special education and related services, ages 3 to 21. Each child who meets criteria for one or more of the 11 impairments described in both state and federal law, and who demonstrates a need for special education and related services, will receive a free and appropriate education to meet his or her needs as described in his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
