Pewaukee School District
After a thorough selection process, the Pewaukee School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that Michael Cady has been selected to serve as Superintendent of Schools. He will replace Dr. JoAnn Sternke who is retiring at the end of this school year after sixteen years of service.
Board President Brian Kammers said, “I am proud that the Board of Education employed a rigorous process and a nationwide search to select the best candidate to serve our school community now and for the future.” A superintendent profile was carefully crafted using the results from a community survey to which over 480 people responded. The profile was further enhanced by multiple parent, staff and community member focus groups in order to develop an accurate profile of the qualities desired in the next superintendent of Pewaukee Schools.
A wide net was cast to seek professionals who best fit this profile. Over 34 candidates applied for the position including some from out of state. Board President Kammers went on to say, “the Board of Education did its due diligence in screening candidates, interviewing five that best fit the qualities identified in the superintendent profile. From that pool of five candidates, two finalists emerged. These two candidates toured the schools and met with teams of administrators, faculty, staff, parents and community members who offered input into the final selection. A final interview with the Board was also conducted. Kammers continued, “When the Board deliberated over the considerable feedback given to us, we knew we had two truly outstanding candidates, but we clearly felt Mr. Cady could best take the Pewaukee School District to new heights of excellence. I’m proud of our process and in the ultimate decision the Board made.”
Michael Cady currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the Pewaukee School District. He came to Pewaukee from the Franklin School District where he was High School Principal from 2004 to 2012 and Wisconsin’s Principal of the Year in 2010. He is nearing completion of his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Cardinal Stritch University.
The Board is very thankful for the interest that the school community showed in participating in the community survey and focus groups. Given the quality of the final candidates, the Board felt the process had proven itself to be valuable and effective.
Mr. Cady adds, “I am both humbled and thrilled to be selected as the next superintendent of the Pewaukee School District replacing Dr. JoAnn Sternke who has served this District with distinction for the past 16 years. Pewaukee is an incredibly special place. I cannot imagine a better opportunity. Having served in Pewaukee for 11 years as a teacher, associate principal, and district level administrator, in addition to living in the community with two children in our schools, this is the place I am both professionally and personally connected to. In addition to my time in Pewaukee, I have had the good fortune to serve in other area high‐performing districts including Franklin and Nicolet. I plan to capitalize on the sum total of those experiences as I work to advance the District’s mission of Opening the Door to Each Child’s Future. I want to thank our committed Board of Education for their hard work facilitating a thorough and rigorous selection process as well as the wonderful parents, staff, administration and members of the community for your important participation in the process. It is a tremendous honor to serve this community. I look forward to working with our entire school community as we strive to provide our students a world‐class education.
The Board of Education will act on the hiring on March 29, 2017. Mr. Cady will begin service as Superintendent on July 1, 2017. Prior to the start of the 2017‐18 school year, we will be holding some “meet and greet” opportunities so you can get to know our new superintendent. We hope you will attend and welcome our new Superintendent of Schools Michael Cady.
