Classroom Snacks

At Horizon Elementary, we created a list of recomended snacks for you to consider sending in for your child to eat at snack times.  Making healthy snack choices that can provide energy and nutrition while limiting unnecessary sugar and fat is beneficial to your child's learning.  Please consider this when it comes to sending a daily snack for your individual child, as well as for classroom and birthday treats.  

Recommended Snacks: 

  • Fresh fruit
  • Fresh vegetables
  • 100% fruit juice
  • Dried fruits (raisins, banana chips, etc.)
  • Trail mix
  • Party mix (variety of cereals, petzels, raisins, etc.)
  • Low sodium and whole grain crackers
  • Baked corn tortilla and baked snack chips or pretzels
  • Granola bars
  • Bagels - whole grain are best
  • Flavored yogurt
  • Popcorn, rice cakes and soy crisps
  • Nuts and seeds (again keep in mind classroom allergies)
  • Dry cereal (whole grain is best, avoid bright colored, sugary cereal)
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Low fat string cheese
  • Mini meat sandwiches (ham, turkey, roast beef)

Please Do Not bring candy, soda, regular chips or other high fat, high sugar snacks.  Foods that contain sugar as one of the first two ingredients listed are considered to be of low nutritional value and should Not be brought to class.

You will be notified by your child's classroom teacher if there are food allergies in the classroom that require food restrictions.
